Osteosarcoma of the rib: a case with rare presentation

In children and adolescents with chest pain and dyspnea in the differential diagnosis with pneumonia, pleural effusion, empyema are the frequent causes. Malignant tumors of the chest wall are rare and most of them originate from the rib. In children the most frequent malignant tumor of the rib is Ewing sarkoma. Osteosarcomas of the rib is is very rare. Osteosarcoma has a predilection a 14 year old girl for rapidly growing long bones in the extremities. In this paper we present an adolescent girl with osteosarcoma presenting with chest pain and dyspnea which originating from the rib and extending to the right hemithorax.
