Abstract

Visceral leishmaniasis is an infectious disease which infects and multiplies in macrophages of liver, spleen and bone marrow. The most common clinical features are fever, splenomegaly and anemia. Hepatomegaly is less frequent than splenomegaly. The most frequent symptom is fever and it can be intermittent or remittent. On the contrary, fever may be absent in immunosuppressed patients. Anemia, leucopenia and thrombocytopenia are the main hematological abnormalities commonly seen in visceral leishmaniasis. These findings can be seen several types of hematologic disorders. These findings are similar as most of hematological disorders and so may be caused disturbances about diagnosis. It is difficult to confirm when it is seen except epidemiologic areas. It can be fatal if it is not treated and appropriate treatment can be lifesaving. We present a patient who was treated for acute lymphoblastic leukemia and had relapsed Kala-Azar in this period.
